Welcome to the Portsmouth Gas Light. Built in 1837, this building is the former home of the city’s first utility, the Portsmouth Gas Light Co.
THE GRILL
If you look closely on the eastern wall, you can still see original brick charred by the fires. Today the restaurant is appointed with rich textures of wood, brick and copper paying homage to the Gas Light Company’s role in Portsmouth's storied history. In fact, every week we burn more than a cord of aromatic wood in the brick oven kitchen to prepare our unique wood-fired bistro cuisine. We hope you’ll feel as at home at the Gas Light as we do.
Located in the heart of historic downtown Portsmouth, the Portsmouth Gas Light Restaurant opens weekdays at 12:00pm.
We offer a variety of traditional pub items, such as homemade clam chowder, wood-fire grilled burgers and chicken sandwiches. Our entrees include grilled chicken pasta and lobster stuffed haddock. We offer locally brewed draft beer and a boutique style wine selection, as well as national favorites. Join us Wednesday nights for 50% off bottled wine.
THE PIZZA PUB
For over a decade, the Pizza Pub has been a perennial Seacoast favorite. Originally excavated by hand using a five-gallon pickle bucket, the former basement has been transformed into an award-winning family restaurant. Today the wood-fired brick oven burns traditional New England hard woods that give our pizza its unique smoke flavor. In fact, our oven can reach a temperature of 2,000 degrees. We burn over a cord of wood each week to bring you distinctively delicious pizza.
Come enjoy our comfy atmosphere with our family friendly dining on one side and our cozy pub environment on the other. We serve our award-winning hand-tossed pizza, calzones, pasta dishes, appetizers, salads and desserts all day. Our full service bar offers craft, domestic and imported beers, as well as a great martini and wine list.
THE DECK
Outdoor oasis by day, tropical island feel by night. At the Deck, you can enjoy the lush, casual setting of the city's largest courtyard for lunch, or hang out for a relaxing afternoon with friends. When the sun sets, get lost in the live music and the island atmosphere, right in downtown Portsmouth.
